Singles Day 11.11 2026: Date and IST Start

Singles’ Day 2026 is Wednesday 11 November. China-midnight in IST, what Alibaba has not announced, and how it differs from Bhai Dooj.

Four ones on a calendar are enough to move a large share of the world’s online orders. Singles’ Day 2026 — also called Double Eleven and 11.11 — is Wednesday, 11 November. The date is the festival. The hour a given app will drop its 2026 coupons is a separate fact, and for Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao that hour is not yet confirmed in an official 2026 customer notice we can cite.

Verification note: 11 November is the fixed date of Singles’ Day. In 2026 it is a Wednesday. The traditional start used by Chinese platforms is midnight China Standard Time (UTC+8) as 11 November begins, which is 9:30 PM IST on Tuesday 10 November. That conversion is the calendar convention. It is not a 2026 press release naming presale waves. Alibaba stopped publishing a single headline gross-merchandise figure after the 2021 festival. We will not invent a 2026 sales total.

Indian brands that want an 11.11 edit, distinct from Diwali week, need the Wednesday labelled honestly. That is standard ecommerce development and digital marketing work for us.

Clocks that matter

  • Calendar date: Wednesday, 11 November 2026
  • China Standard Time midnight at the start of 11 November: 9:30 PM IST, Tuesday 10 November
  • Same Wednesday in India: Bhai Dooj, a separate family observance. Do not merge the two.
  • US Eastern, after the clocks have gone back: Wednesday morning in China is Tuesday evening on the US East Coast. A New York shopper who waits for “Wednesday 11.11” in their own midnight will be many hours behind the China start.
  • Black Friday 2026: Friday 27 November, just over two weeks later

If you are watching a China-based livestream, set the alarm for Tuesday night IST. If you are watching an Indian app that has chosen to run its own “11.11” on Wednesday daytime, trust that app’s banner, not the China midnight. The two can both exist. They are not required to.

Where the day came from

Students at Nanjing University in the early 1990s treated 11 November as a tongue-in-cheek day for single people, because the digits look like four ones standing alone. In 2009 Alibaba turned the date into a sale on Tmall. It grew into the largest online shopping day in the world, with JD.com, Pinduoduo, Douyin and, outside China, Lazada, Shopee and a long list of Western retailers borrowing the name. The first Tmall sale had a few dozen brands. By the end of the 2010s the event had become a multi-week festival with presales in October, a first checkout window, and a main night.

The last year Alibaba put a single headline gross-merchandise number on the festival was 2021, when the group reported about 540.3 billion yuan, widely converted at the time to about 84.5 billion US dollars. From 2022 the company emphasised categories and merchants rather than one giant total. Any graphic you see in 2026 that names a fresh record “already” is not using an official figure, because the festival has not happened yet. Ignore it.

What 2026 has and has not announced

Not yet confirmed: presale start dates, the first-checkout hour, the length of the 2026 festival, installment partners, and which overseas sites will join. Historically the campaign has opened well before 11 November. Historically is not a date you can put on a media plan. If you buy media against 11.11, book the week of 9 November as the public spike and keep a contingency for an earlier presale announcement in October. When Alibaba or JD posts the 2026 timetable, replace this paragraph’s caution with their hours. Do not let an agency slide from 2024 stand in for it.

How to buy, including from India

  • Decide the item and the ceiling price before Tuesday 10 November. The night itself is a poor time to learn a model number.
  • On Tmall, JD, or a Southeast Asian app, the payable price after coupons and coins is the only price that counts. A strikethrough in yuan is not a discount until the cart says so.
  • Cross-border shipping into India adds duty, a longer returns path, and plugs or garments that may not match. Read that before you pay. A domestic Amazon.in or Flipkart offer during Diwali week may already have been the better price for the same global brand.
  • Do not pay a “helper” who says they will check out for you inside China. You will not see the parcel, and you will have handed over a login.
  • Indian apps that paste “11.11” on a Wednesday banner are running their own promotion. Judge it against the October festive price you screenshotted, not against a China livestream.

Payments: Chinese platforms may not love every Indian card. If a checkout fails, the failure is often the issuer, not a sold-out myth. Try the method the site lists. Avoid a stranger’s QR code that claims to “unlock” a coupon.

For sellers and marketers

If you sell on a Chinese marketplace, your 2026 calendar is the one your category manager sends. Consumer pages cannot see your campaign rate. If you sell only in India, 11 November is a Wednesday in the middle of the post-Diwali week. Bhai Dooj is the same civil date. A banner that shouts “Singles’ Day” at a customer base that is sending mithai to brothers will feel imported, which it is. Use it only if you have a real offer and a real end time — for example “coupon valid 11 November, 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM IST”. Say IST. Do not imply you are Tmall.

Creative that jokes about being single can tip into something mean very quickly. The original campus joke was light. A 2026 ad that mocks people for not being married will age badly and is unnecessary. Sell the product.

Diwali Lakshmi Puja is Sunday 8 November, three days earlier. Staff and courier networks will already be tired. A Wednesday spike on top of a Sunday festival is an operations fact. Plan packing on Monday 9 November if you expect 11.11 volume in India. Do not discover it on Tuesday night.

More sale context: Great Indian Festival, Big Billion Days, and Navratri and Dussehra. If the Wednesday needs a page that can be updated the moment a platform posts its hours, write to us.

Tuesday night versus Wednesday afternoon

Set two alarms only if you truly shop both markets. The first is 9:15 PM IST on Tuesday 10 November, a few minutes before midnight in China, so you are logged in if a China platform follows the traditional start. The second is whatever hour an Indian app has printed for its own Wednesday promotion, if it has printed one. If it has not, do not sit up. Bhai Dooj is the Wednesday daytime event in Indian homes. You can do a tilak in the afternoon and a purchase in the evening without letting a livestream host tell you the festival and the sale are one thing.

Sellers on Indian marketplaces should decide by 1 November whether they are in. A coupon that goes live at 12:00 AM IST on Wednesday and ends at 11:59 PM IST Wednesday is easy to explain. A coupon that secretly started on Monday and is already exhausted by the time the banner goes up is how you collect one-star reviews. Stock the fast movers on Monday 9 November. Diwali returns will still be coming back into the warehouse from the Sunday festival. Separate a returns bench from the 11.11 pick bench or the two queues will become one argument.

Cross-border buyers should add duty to the mental price before they fall for a yuan strikethrough. A gadget that is cheap on Tmall and expensive after Indian customs, a plug adaptor, and a return that cannot happen is not 11.11 magic. It is a parcel you will resent in December. If the same global brand is sold by its Indian store, compare that page first.
