Two dates are circulating for the same film, and both can be true if you read who they are for. Sony Pictures has set a global release of Friday, 6 November 2026 for Ramayana. Producer Namit Malhotra has said the India release is being targeted for Diwali, Sunday, 8 November 2026. If you are booking a theatre in Mumbai, wait for the Sunday listing. If you are booking in a territory Sony has dated to the Friday, the English trailer’s 6 November line is the one that matches that plan.

Verification note: Variety reported on 2 September 2026 that Sony Pictures Entertainment will release Ramayana globally on 6 November. In an NDTV interview reported by Bollywood Hungama and Hindustan Times, Namit Malhotra said the film will release in India on Diwali, and he agreed that means 8 November, while international distribution follows the Friday 6 November date. The India date is the producer’s stated target. A separate India-distributor lock beyond that interview is the piece to re-check on the theatre app in late October.

Variety’s account of the story is the one to stick to: an exiled prince, Rama, played by Kapoor, and Sita, played by Pallavi, with her abduction by Ravana, played by Yash, setting the war in motion. It is planned as a two-part film, released in multiple languages including English. Bollywood trades have also named a wider ensemble, including Sunny Deol and Ravie Dubey, and composers A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Those additional names appear in trade interviews rather than in the Variety news item cited above. If your caption needs to be tight, the three leads, the director, and the two dates are the confirmed core. Treat every other name as reported by the trades until a Sony or Prime Focus credit block lists it.

Show times and tickets

No 2026 India show time is meaningful until a cinema chain publishes it. BookMyShow, Paytm Insider and the theatre’s own site are the legal places to book. A “first-day-first-show confirmation” PDF in a fan group is not a ticket. Prices are set by the theatre and the seat, and they are not yet a single national figure. We will not guess a rupee price for a Diwali Sunday, which is historically a crowded day.

Language and format — IMAX, 3D, or a particular dub — are not yet confirmed as a full India grid in this guide. Check the listing for your city. The English trailer carrying “6 November” is consistent with the international Friday. It is not, by itself, a correction of the producer’s India target.

Why the split exists

Malhotra’s explanation, as reported from the NDTV conversation, is operational: international distribution prefers a Friday, and 6 November is that Friday, while Diwali in India falls on Sunday 8 November and the producers want the domestic opening on the festival day. Sunday openings are less usual for Hollywood-style Friday grids and completely usual for Indian festival releases. The split is a distribution choice, not a rumour that the film has two different edits. Whether every overseas market actually goes on the 6th, and whether every Indian screen goes on the 8th, is what the local listings will prove. “Targeting” is the producer’s word for India. Honour that word. Do not upgrade it to “every single screen is contractually locked” unless a later notice says so.

Diwali night is also Lakshmi Puja. In Delhi the puja window is early evening. A late-night show and a household puja can share a Sunday only if the family has planned both. An afternoon show leaves the evening free. That is household logistics, not a studio instruction.

What the film is trying to be

Tiwari directed Dangal. The producers have described Ramayana as a large-scale telling built for audiences beyond India, which is why Sony is on the global date and why an English-language trailer exists. The source is the epic of Rama. A two-part structure means Part 1 is not obliged to finish the whole narrative. Reviews, runtime and certification are not yet confirmed. We will not invent a CBFC rating or a minute count.

Fan edits that claim a leaked climax are not a legal way to see the film, and they are often not the film at all. Wait for the theatre. If a trailer is on Sony’s or the producers’ own channel, that is the version to share.

The corridor it releases into

The same season already has dated Indian releases we have covered separately: Drishyam on 2 October, Jailer 2 on 15 October, Ranabaali on 16 October. Ramayana’s India target is three weeks after that Dussehra cluster, on the Diwali Sunday. It is not competing with those films for the same Friday. Hollywood titles dated by other studios around early November — including Godzilla Minus Zero’s Japan opening on 3 November and a wide North American date of 6 November — sit on the international Friday, not on an Indian Diwali plan. Different distributors, different countries. Your local theatre’s Friday-and-Sunday grid is the only grid that spends your money.

Update the India row if Prime Focus or the Indian distributor issues a final notice that moves the Sunday.

How to book without mixing the two dates

If your screen is in India, search the Sunday. A Friday 6 November show in a US or UK listing can be real and still be the wrong country. If your screen is overseas, search the Friday and read the language. The film is planned in multiple languages including English. Subtitles and dubs are a theatre-by-theatre fact, not a single worldwide track list we can publish in September. Take the Sunday Diwali target seriously and keep the producer’s word “targeting” in the sentence, because a later India notice can still move a screen. Refresh the cinema app on the Monday before, 2 November, when festive schedules usually lock.

Families who also have Lakshmi Puja on Sunday evening should book the late morning or the early afternoon. Delhi’s puja window begins before 6 PM. A 7 PM show in Delhi collides with it. An 11 AM show does not. That collision is local. In Mumbai the puja window itself starts later, around 6:27 PM on the computation we cited for Diwali, so an early-evening show is a tighter fit there too. Look at your city’s puja window and your city’s showtime together. They are both real clocks.

Do not buy a “fan club block” from a social account. Diwali Sundays are when those messages peak, because the demand is real and the official site is slow. Slow is not the same as sold out. Wait, refresh, pay the platform. A confirmation SMS from the cinema or from BookMyShow or Paytm Insider is the ticket. A screenshot of someone else’s confirmation is a picture.
