The Nobel Peace Prize is announced on its own morning, in a different city, by a different committee, and it is the search that outruns the science prizes. The Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, 9 October, at 11:00 CEST at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo. That is 14:30 IST. Unlike the Swedish announcements the same week, the Foundation’s listing for peace does not add the phrase “at the earliest.” The other five prizes, their rooms, and their minutes are on the timetable page beside this one. This note is only Oslo.

A leak posted at 13:00 IST is thirty minutes early and should be treated as false until the Institute has spoken. The Swedish prizes use “at the earliest” because their meetings can overrun. Peace is listed at 11:00. If the Committee still starts late, the video will show it; do not pre-write the delay.

How the Peace Prize is decided

Alfred Nobel’s will placed the peace prize with a committee appointed in Norway, which is why this announcement is not in Stockholm. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has five members. Nominations are confidential. The Committee does not confirm who was nominated, and a public letter that says “we nominated X” is not, by itself, proof that a valid nomination was received. Eligible nominators are a defined legal class — members of national assemblies and governments, certain professors, previous laureates, and others set out in the statutes. A social-media poll is not a nomination.

Oslo is not a Swedish late start

The rest of Nobel week hedges its clock. Peace does not, in the Foundation’s 2026 list: 11:00 CEST, 14:30 IST, Store Sal, Henrik Ibsens gate 51. Plan the live page for that minute and have a human on it, because a five-minute slip should be described as a slip rather than pre-scheduled. The stream is the official Nobel channel. A television panel that begins at 14:00 IST with rumours is not the announcement. Keep the panel off the same headline as the name.

Nominations are confidential. A politician’s letter saying they nominated someone is a claim about their own act, not a Committee shortlist. For everyone else the official stream is the access. After the name is read, the site posts the citation. Quote from that text if a translator on television smooths a verb into a stronger claim. Joint awards need every name in the first clause. An organisational laureate is announced the same way as a person. The Committee’s membership is five people; their biographies are public, their deliberations are not. Do not narrate a vote split inside the Committee. You do not have it. You have the result and the stated reasons. That is the whole morning, and it is enough.
