IGDC 2026 Chennai: 28 to 31 October Dates

Chennai Trade Centre is about to spend four days talking about games, and the split inside those four days is the part most visitors miss. IGDC 2026, the 18th India Game Developer Conference, runs Wednesday 28 October through Saturday 31 October 2026. The organiser’s site puts the B2B conference on 28 and 29 October and the public IGDC Playground on 30 and 31 October. Halloween Saturday is the last day of the playground, not a separate festival the conference is trying to be.

Verification note: indiagdc.com describes the 18th edition as 28–31 October 2026 at Chennai Trade Centre, with the B2B days and the B2C Playground split as above, and describes “10,000+ attendees” as the scale it is planning. Speaker names on that site include people from Paradox Development Studio, Devolver Digital, Fingersoft and Indian studios. The split matters if you are booking flights. A developer who only needs meetings should not assume Saturday is the working day. A player who wants to try demos should not land on Wednesday and find the floor still in conference mode. Chennai in late October is hot and wet-or-not depending on the year. The hall is air-conditioned. The auto queue outside is not. Nungambakkam and the trade-centre side of the city need a real transfer plan at closing time, when everyone leaves together.

Who it is for

IGDC is a working conference that grew a public day. The B2B half is talks, meetings and an awards strand for people who ship games: programmers, artists, producers, publishers. The Playground half is where a larger crowd can walk a show floor. The organiser lists speakers from Indian and international studios. Names published on the 2026 site include Henrik Lohmander (Paradox Development Studio), M. Joshua Cauller (Devolver Digital), Mikko Kirmanen (Fingersoft), Lal Chand Bisu (Kuku Technologies) and a longer list that will keep changing. A name on a September website can move. The schedule page the week before is the check. We are not printing talk titles we have not verified line by line.

If you are a student hoping to “network”, go with a finished build or a clear question. Collecting badges is not a portfolio. If you are a parent taking a teenager to the Playground, the B2B days are the wrong ticket. Age guidance for the public days, if the organiser publishes it, beats a guess. The attendee figure of 10,000+ is the organiser’s description of scale, not an audited turnstile count we are endorsing as a record.

Chennai, practically

Chennai Trade Centre is at Nandambakkam, not on Marina Beach. The metro and the suburban rail do not drop you at the door. Budget the last mile. October is still a busy month for the city. Hotels near Guindy and the airport fill when a large show is on. Book the nights of 27 October (arrival) through 31 October if you are staying for the Playground, and do it before you assume Saturday is optional. Diwali is the following week, Sunday 8 November. You can do IGDC and still be home for Diwali if you fly on Sunday 1 November. You cannot do both in Chennai unless that is already your plan.

Karwa Chauth is Thursday 29 October, which is the second B2B day. Colleagues who observe it will be fasting until moonrise, and moonrise in Chennai that evening is later than in Delhi — published tables put Chennai near 8:40 PM IST. A conference dinner that assumes everyone eats at 7:30 PM will miss them. That is a small courtesy and an easy one to get wrong.

Chennai Trade Centre’s gates and the city’s freight hours are their own system. A booth that is still in crates when the first meeting starts is a booth that wasted the expensive day. The B2B days are 28 and 29 October. Put your best conversation on those days. The weekend playground is a different crowd, useful for showing a build, less useful for a publisher meeting that needed quiet.

If you are only attending, register for the days you will use. A four-day badge you wear for one afternoon is a donation, which you may want to make, and it is still worth choosing on purpose. Students should look at whether the organiser has a student rate rather than sharing a badge. Shared badges fail at the door, and they should. The speaker list will move. Follow the site, not a September screenshot. A talk you crossed a country for can be rescheduled. Check on 26 October.

The public weekend ends on Saturday 31 October, which is also Halloween. The playground is not a costume party unless the organiser says it is. Wear shoes you can stand in on a show floor. Carry a card, a power bank the venue allows, and a short account of what you are making. Leave the prop weapons at home. A game conference does not need them, and a security desk will not negotiate.

Chennai in the last week of October is also a good week to be specific about what you want from the trip. A publisher meeting belongs on Wednesday or Thursday. A demo you want friends to play belongs on Friday or Saturday. A talk you care about belongs on the schedule you recheck on the Monday before, because speaker pages drift. Write those three intentions down before you book the flight. A conference you attend with no intention becomes a lanyard and a tote. The dates are solid. The use you make of them is the part you still control.
