The Chicago Marathon lands on the same Sunday as a night T20I in Indore and a Formula 1 race in Singapore, and it starts while those events are still hours away. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is set for Sunday, 11 October 2026. The race’s own future-dates page lists that Sunday as the planned date, in line with its habit of using the second Sunday of October. NBC Chicago’s guide to the 2026 race says more than 55,000 runners are expected, that wheelchair athletes step off at 7:20 AM, that the first wave of runners starts at 7:30 AM, and that the final wave starts at 8:35 AM, all local. The course time limit in that report is six hours and 30 minutes. In India, 7:30 AM Central Daylight Time is 6:00 PM IST.

Verification note: Date from the Chicago Marathon future-dates page and from NBC Chicago. Wave times from NBC Chicago’s 2026 timing note, which also says the Abbott Health and Fitness Expo begins on 8 October. The organiser says future dates are subject to change. Elite start procedures can differ from the mass wave; if you are tracking a named professional, confirm that athlete’s start on the official page in race week. It is not yet confirmed in this article.

Waves, converted once

  • Date: Sunday, 11 October 2026
  • Wheelchair: 7:20 AM Central Daylight Time, 5:50 PM IST
  • First runner wave: 7:30 AM CDT, 6:00 PM IST
  • Final wave: 8:35 AM CDT, 7:05 PM IST
  • Time limit cited by NBC Chicago: 6 hours 30 minutes, after which roads reopen
  • Expo: from Thursday 8 October, per the same report
  • UK at the first wave: 1:30 PM British Summer Time
  • US Eastern at the first wave: 8:30 AM EDT

Chicago is on Central Daylight Time in October, UTC−5. India is UTC+5:30. The gap is ten hours and thirty minutes. Add that to 7:30 AM and you get 6:00 PM IST the same calendar day. You do not cross midnight. US daylight saving ends on 1 November, so this race is still on daylight time. Do not convert it as if Chicago were on standard time.

Waves exist so 55,000 people do not cross one mat together. Your corrals’s start is the one on your bib information, and it may be later than 7:30 AM. The 7:30 figure is the first wave, not a promise that every runner moves then. The 8:35 AM final wave is the other end of the mass start. Tracking a friend requires their wave, not the wheelchair time.

The course, stated only as far as the sources go

NBC Chicago’s timing story describes the scale of the race and the clock. It does not, in the passage used here, reprint turn-by-turn streets. The official course map on chicagomarathon.com is the map to use. Recent editions have started and finished in Grant Park; confirm that the 2026 map still does before you tell someone where to stand. A street closure list is a city document published closer to race week. It is not reconstructed here, because a wrong intersection is worse than no intersection.

The six-hour-thirty-minute limit is the figure NBC Chicago gives for when roads reopen. That is an event operations fact, not a judgment about a runner’s goal. If you are advising someone, send them to the official participant guide for pace teams, fluid stations and medical tents. Those details change and should not be copied from a 2024 blog into a 2026 plan.

How to follow it from India, the UK and Chicago

The professional race is usually on a US sports channel and on the event’s own tracking app. The specific 2026 broadcaster is not yet confirmed in the future-dates note. Check the event’s where-to-watch page in race week. India carriage of an American marathon is often absent from linear TV and present, if at all, as a stream or as live tracking. Say that plainly. The official athlete tracker is the useful tool for families in India at 6:00 PM: it does not require a pirate video of a city street.

UK viewers at 1:30 PM can look for a rights-holder highlight show even if live pictures are not sold. Spectators in Chicago should use the official spectator guide for baggage and for which corners are closed. This page is not that guide and will not invent a viewing spot.

The rest of that Sunday, so you do not double-book the TV

The Singapore Grand Prix race is scheduled for 5:30 PM IST that Sunday, half an hour before the marathon’s first wave at 6:00 PM IST, so the two overlap for anyone trying to follow both. The Indore T20I is at 7:00 PM IST, an hour after the first marathon wave and close to the final wave at 7:05 PM IST. Three sports, three clocks, one Sunday. Our US Grand Prix page is the Austin round later in the month, the Formula 1 guide already on the site. The T20I series guide includes Indore on this date. The Lucknow T20I is the previous Tuesday.

That overlap is the reason a marathon page has to lead with the wave time. A generic “Sunday sports” headline will send a cricket fan to a start line and a runner’s family to a cricket score.

What people search, and the honest answers

  1. Date: Sunday 11 October 2026, subject to the organiser’s own change clause.
  2. First mass start: 7:30 AM local, 6:00 PM IST.
  3. Your runner’s wave: on their participant information, not in this article.
  4. Tracking: the official app and website, not a random map.
  5. Weather: a forecast on Saturday. October in Chicago can be cold at a 7:30 AM start. This page will not invent the temperature.

No betting market belongs next to a marathon start list. Entry fees and charity minimums are on the official site and are not copied here, because they are price figures we have not re-verified from a fee table.

Related reading and the build note

Running is not the only sport that trends through a single athlete. The Andre Agassi page and the Caleb Williams page show person-led search. A marathon page should stay on the start clock unless a named elite field has actually been announced. For publishers, the useful product is a wave table with a timezone toggle. We build those in web development and help them get found through digital marketing. An event that also sells charity entries sometimes needs a simple storefront; that is ecommerce development, kept separate from the results page.

FAQ

What date is the 2026 Chicago Marathon?

Sunday, 11 October 2026, on the organiser’s future-dates list and in NBC Chicago’s guide.

What time does the first wave start in IST?

6:00 PM IST, from a 7:30 AM Central Daylight Time start.

When do wheelchair athletes start?

7:20 AM local, which is 5:50 PM IST, according to NBC Chicago’s timing note.

When is the last wave?

8:35 AM local, 7:05 PM IST, in that same report.

Where do I watch it in India?

A linear India broadcaster is not yet confirmed. Use the official tracker for a specific runner, and a licensed stream only if one is listed.

Is the Grant Park start confirmed for 2026?

Confirm the course map on the official site. Recent editions have used Grant Park; this article does not treat the 2026 street list as already reprinted.

One Sunday, three sports, one marathon clock

Tracking one runner instead of the whole field

Most people who open a marathon page from outside Chicago are trying to find one person. The event’s official tracker uses the bib number. Ask for the bib before Sunday, not at 6:00 PM IST when the corrals are already moving. Wave time matters because a runner in the final wave is not on the course at 7:30 AM local, and a text that says “they started” at 6:00 PM IST may be early by more than an hour. The six-hour-thirty-minute limit NBC Chicago cites is the back of the race, not a target. A runner who starts at 8:35 AM local is on a different clock from the professionals at the front, whose start procedure should be confirmed separately if you are following an elite.

The expo from 8 October is the other date families mix up with race day. It is not a start. If you are travelling, the official participant guide is the list of what you may carry. This article is the list of when the waves move and how that looks in IST, plus a warning that Singapore and Indore are on television at the same time. Pick the runner or pick the cricket. The tracker will still be there if you look up from the T20I at the innings break.

Chicago is UTC−5 that morning, not UTC−6. Using standard time by mistake makes every IST figure an hour early and tells a family in India that the race has started when the corrals are still closed. Write Central Daylight Time in the sentence, not just “Chicago time”. The organiser’s own future-dates page says the listed Sundays can change. If 11 October is ever replaced, the wave clock in this article has to be rebuilt from the new local start, not shifted by a day with the old hour glued on.
